Yin yoga is a slower-paced, meditative form of the physical and spiritual discipline and practice of yoga. In yin yoga, poses are held for a longer period of time (typically 3-5 minutes) in order to target and stretch the connective tissues (i.e. joints, ligaments, tendons, fascia) of the body. The goal is not to strengthen the muscles, but instead to stretch and lengthen those rarely used tissues.

Target audience for this course: Certification is designed for those who have a passion for the energetics of yin yoga; teachers that have a desire to teach yin yoga to others or serious students who want to develop a personal practice for themselves.

Prerequisites for the course: Open to both yoga teachers and students of the practice; 200-hour CYT (certified yoga teacher) recommended but not required.

What is the focus of this certification: In this certification, we explore three elements of the practice: depth, stillness and time (known as the tattvas), along with covering a standard set of 12 yin poses. These 12 poses are described in detail and experienced first-hand during class. The discussion will include variations to these poses, what props to use and what anatomy is working during the hold. Since yin yoga often focuses on spine, shoulders, and hips – sequencing examples are given for these to get you started. Other themes, accompaniments and resources are also shared for your consideration as you become more experienced.

Natalie Sydorenko - Natalie holds a PhD in Communication and has taught in Higher Ed for nearly three decades. She is a certified Yoga Instructor and Reiki Master Practitioner with accompanying certifications in Animal Reiki and Meditation and Mindfulness. She is also a Certified Celebrant.

Natalie grew up with a mom who was a dedicated Physical Therapist. From a young age, she was curious about anatomy and how the body worked; and, through her mom’s hands-on education, she learned PT exercises to strengthen her body and increase her mobility and stability, especially with trouble areas and/or after accidents and injuries. This early foundation drew Natalie to earn a special certification in Yin Yoga. Natalie has been teaching Yin regularly for many years. It is her passion and her favorite type of yoga to teach. She uses the enhancements cited in this training to expand the Yin experience for all ages, levels, and abilities.
